Day 4 - The Details
_____ 4.1. Fully countersink all pilot holes. Fill screw holes with filler as you go so it can dry prior to sanding later in the day.
_____ 4.2. Have the boat shop crew custom-cut the breast hook. Use four 1-5/8” screws to secure the breast hook.
_____ 4.3. Stain or paint the inside of the boat before installing seat rails, clamps, or rub rails.
_____ 4.4. Cut and attach seat rails to fit. Seat rails do not need to extend to the inner stem. Locate the top of the seat rails approximately 7” from the top of the boat. Fully countersink pilot holes and fasten with one 1-5/8” screw into each frame. Stain or paint cut ends.
_____ 4.5. Cut and attach the clamps to fit. Install the breast hook before cutting the clamp length. The clamps don't need to extend all the way to the breast hook. Fully countersink 1-5/8” screws to fasten the sheer clamps near the top of the frames from inside the boat and even with the top of the sheer board. Avoid hitting the screws that attach the sheer boards to the frames. Stain or paint cut ends.
_____ 4.6. Cut frames at the same angle and flush with the top of the sheer board. Stain or paint the cut ends.
_____ 4.7. Cut and place the front seat about 32” from the inner stem. Place it between the frames.
_____ 4.8. Cut and place the middle seat about 76” from the inner stem. Place it between the frames.
_____ 4.9. Cut and place the aft seat about 17” from the back of the back seat to the transom. Place it between the frames.
_____ 4.10. Seats are fastened to the seat rails with two 1-5/8” screws in each end. Fully countersink the seat screws. Be careful with the seat screw placement into the seat rails. Stain or paint the cut ends.
_____ 4.11. Have a Crew Member assist in marking the waterline. Place a mark at both the transom and stem 2” up from the bottom. Starting at the stem mark, guide a piece of blue tape across the boat, from the stem to the transom. Keep the tape straight and level. Paint the waterline.
_____ 4.12. Starting no later than 3 p.m., apply filler to screw holes. Then sand the surfaces and apply stains and finish coats as needed.
Day 4 is done - time to clean up and celebrate!
